dior christmas tree made by John Galliano

John Galliano, one of the most popular and famous British fashion designers and a creative director of Christian Dior fashion house, is likely more accustomed to designing haute couture gowns for stylish celebs like Gwen Stefani, Dita Von Teese, and Sharon Stone. But this Christmas 2009, for the first time in his carear, he has turned his talents to creating a designer label Christmas tree. What is important is that it will be surely one of the first-ever to come one with a ‘leopard’.

The Fashion Dior Tree created by Johm Galliano, a 20ft high tree made from papier-mâche, paper and polystyrene, was erected overnight in Claridge’s, London, W1.

The tree, cituated in the hotel’s lobby, actually takes its inspiration from fairy-tale type icy snow scenes. I feel it mixed with a tropical twist. It is painted in white and metallic blue colours and perched among its branches are a handmade leopard, several parrots and a dragonfly. Real fairy tale, isn’t it? It helps to create a special Christmas holidays feeling.

“I am thrilled that Dior is collaborating with Claridge’s this Christmas,” said John Galliano. “I love to visit Claridge’s when I am in London, particularly at this time of the year - and I hope to bring a twist to the traditional tree. I want to combine the festive with the innovative, the spirit of Dior with the beauty of Claridge’s, and create something spectacular that will inspire the perfect start to the season!”

The Dior tree will be officially launched December 1st, 2009 at a cocktail reception, which will also feature a display of 20 vintage gowns from the Christian Dior archive, hand-picked by Galliano.

You will be able to admire the Dior tree in Claridge’s lobby until Twelfth Night, January 6th.
